A few things annoy me about Ready Player One..

• It's full of cultural references, but you don't get the pleasure of "getting the referenece" because the author explicitly states what the reference is every single time, like he's writing a scientific paper.
• Ironically, I wanted to read more about the dystopian world everybody in the book was trying to escape. The super-hyper-fantastic Oasis was boring.
• The writing style seemed sophomoric. I found myself wondered if the writer had ever written, or even read, a novel before. Felt like I was reading a screenplay.
• Lack of imagination. The book is written in 2011, but the Oasis sounds like little more than a MMORPG from 2005. Is that really all that people will use VR for? The things people are doing with Minecraft today far exceed what these people are supposedly doing in 2044 or whenever.
