Mild panic arose last week as astronomers noted an unidentified flying object heading rapidly towards earth.

Warnings were retracted however when they realised it was Rosetta, the European space probe, swinging by earth to gather energy before landing on Churyumov-Gerasimenko, a comet out near Jupiter.
